Speaker A:Welcome to After Hours here on Grilling at the Green.
Speaker A:We've got Mariana Garcia Rosette with us today.
Speaker A:Young, aspiring, and has got the talent to be a tour pro.
Speaker A:On the tour.
Speaker A:Not just a pro.
Speaker A:Pro.
Speaker A:Is that a word?
Speaker A:Pro.
Speaker A:Pro.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:Anyway, she's been gracious enough to be on the regular show and then stick around for this.
Speaker A:So I will say this.
Speaker A:Are you ready?
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:What's the one song you want to hear?
Speaker A:Excuse me?
Speaker A:What's the one song you want to hear on the radio when you start your car?
Speaker B:Oh, actually, this is probably one of my favorite songs since that's Life by Frank Sinatra.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:There you go.
Speaker A:Old Blue Eyes.
Speaker A:I love it.
Speaker A:Here's another tough one for you, Mariana.
Speaker A:What's your favorite lifesaver color?
Speaker B:Red.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:I'm a green guy, so that.
Speaker A:There you go.
Speaker A:What's the first thing you reach for when you're done with a round of golf?
Speaker B:My phone.
Speaker A:Really?
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:That's legal.
Speaker A:That's.
Speaker A:That's legal.
Speaker A:Most of my friends are like, beer, you know, or something like that.
Speaker B:I'm usually checking out the leaderboard, if I'm being honest, so.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Name the funniest thing you've ever seen happen to a fellow competitor or colleague during a tournament.
Speaker B:Oh.
Speaker B:There was a girl on the group behind, and we were playing at course in San Diego.
Speaker B:It was during junior golf, and she decided to let go of her push cart, and it rolled right into the lake.
Speaker A:Oh, goodness.
Speaker B:Addie jumped in the water to get the club so she could finish the round.
Speaker A:What's the.
Speaker A:What's the strangest thing that's ever happened to you during a round?
Speaker A:Or funniest or weirdest.
Speaker B:Or strangest would probably be same during junior golf in Mexico.
Speaker B:I hit a.
Speaker B:We were.
Speaker B:It was a downhill par three, and I hit a shot.
Speaker B:And as we're walking, we're seeing a bird just grab my ball and take it with them.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So we just had to go back and place the ball right where we thought it was, so that was great.
Speaker B:I hadn't seen that one before.
Speaker A:There's some courses around Portland that I will tell you if you're playing Excuse me.
Speaker A:And if you happen to have a small bag of, like barbecue potato chips, which are my favorites, the crows will come take the bag away from you.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I had them take two bags during one round, and I actually had them hidden in the golf cart and they still found them.
Speaker B:I had a squirrel steal one of my uncrustables in Palm Springs.
Speaker A:Well, at least they eat well, I could say that.
Speaker A:Name something when you're traveling to these tournaments and it's a.
Speaker A:Maybe it's a place you've been to two or three times over the course of your career.
Speaker A:Name something that you always look forward to.
Speaker A:Now, like, I'll give you an example, because that's kind of a very open ended question, but maybe there's a restaurant in a particular town that you really like, or maybe there's a movie theater, or maybe there's some natural feature, a lake, a waterfall, whatever.
Speaker A:So that gives you kind of a range there.
Speaker B:Oh, that's a great question.
Speaker B:Oh, my gosh.
Speaker B:That's a hard one.
Speaker A:Oh, we're just getting started.
Speaker B:Anytime I go down to Palm Springs, which I used to play a lot of tournaments throughout the summer there.
Speaker B:Kind of a funny one, but I always enjoyed going to and staying at the Agua Caliente Casino.
Speaker B:It was always just fun.
Speaker B:There was always just a lot of lights and a lot of energy, and it was nothing compared to, like, what I'd be experiencing on the golf course.
Speaker B:But it was fun.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:I happen to like casinos.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So there you go.
Speaker A:For various reasons.
Speaker B:Little different one, but.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Name a player on the tour, or anywhere for that matter that you think is underrated.
Speaker B:For the ladies.
Speaker B:I'm gonna go with Lily.
Speaker B:He.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:And why is that?
Speaker B:I think she is just phenomenal.
Speaker B:I think.
Speaker B:I don't think she gets as much attention as.
Speaker B:As she should.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Mariana.
Speaker A:If you could dine with a historical figure, they can be dead for a long time or they can be alive today.
Speaker A:It doesn't matter.
Speaker A:Who would it be and what would be on the menu?
Speaker B:You're doing good over here.
Speaker A:It's my job, kiddo.
Speaker B:I'm just saying.
Speaker B:I think you need a reminder.
Speaker A:Thank you.
Speaker A:Thank you, Herman.
Speaker B:Um, I'm actually going to go with.
Speaker B:Well, I guess he's a.
Speaker B:He's a singer, but that's fine.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:But I'd be.
Speaker B:Be just.
Speaker B:I think it'd be fun.
Speaker B:I'd go with Michael Jackson because I love this music.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker B:And we'd probably just go with prime rib.
Speaker A:Oh, there you go.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:You're a meat eater.
Speaker B:Yes, I am.
Speaker A:Okay, good.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:We.
Speaker A:That's good.
Speaker A:We were getting on shaky ground there for a minute.
Speaker A:If.
Speaker A:If I.
Speaker A:If you came up and we're gonna.
Speaker A:You know.
Speaker A:My other life I've known as the cowboy cook, so you kind of get the inference there.
Speaker A:What's your favorite movie?
Speaker B:La La Land.
Speaker A:Really?
Speaker A:Cool.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:What's the worst movie you've ever seen?
Speaker B:Oh, I should probably know that, huh?
Speaker B:Because I wouldn't watch it again.
Speaker A:Oh.
Speaker B:This?
Speaker B:Not sure.
Speaker B:I don't know if I have an answer for you.
Speaker A:No, that's fine.
Speaker A:That's fine.
Speaker A:If you could.
Speaker A:You're pretty young to answer this question, but if you could erase one mistake from your past, what would it be?
Speaker B:Nothing good.
Speaker A:That's a.
Speaker A:That's the best answer I've ever gotten.
Speaker A:Seriously?
Speaker A:Some people.
Speaker A:Yeah, you know, whatever.
Speaker A:If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
Speaker B:A dog.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker B:They live such a good life.
Speaker A:Yeah, they do.
Speaker A:Or if you were.
Speaker A:We have cats.
Speaker A:And they live a pretty good life, too.
Speaker A:Trust me, they do.
Speaker A:If you could play around a golf with one of your golfing heroes, who would it be?
Speaker B:Lorena.
Speaker B:Charlotte.
Speaker A:Really?
Speaker A:You think you'll ever get that chance?
Speaker B:I hope so.
Speaker B:Yeah, I think so.
Speaker A:She lives.
Speaker A:Didn't she live down by Mexico City?
Speaker B:Yeah, she lives in Guadalajara.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:So if you could get a lesson from one touring pro, who would it be?
Speaker B:Bill Mickelson.
Speaker A:Oh, geez.
Speaker A:You think you might have to wear earmuffs?
Speaker B:I just want to learn how to hit all those shots around the grains.
Speaker A:Well, that's true.
Speaker A:He has them.
Speaker A:He has them.
Speaker A:Okay, Mariana, so if I declared you Supreme Leader of Golf for one day, just one day, all right, what would you decree as Supreme Leader of Golf?
Speaker A:You get one free one.
Speaker A:Here.
Speaker A:See?
Speaker B:Like just anything.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:I think you can move your ball if it's in a divot.
Speaker A:That is a very common, very common thing.
Speaker A:But, you know, a lot of the.
Speaker A:The different tour players I've had on the show go.
Speaker A:It's always the divot deal.
Speaker A:You know, like that.
Speaker A:What's one thing you wish spectators at tournaments would not do?
Speaker B:Heckle players.
Speaker A:Yeah, that's pretty trashy, really.
Speaker A:If we put your skills to music, what would the music be?
Speaker A:Would it be Michael Jackson and Billie Jean or something?
Speaker A:Or.
Speaker B:It would be something with some sort of piano on it.
Speaker A:Do you play the piano?
Speaker B:I've tried, and I do enjoy it.
Speaker B:I should probably take some actual lessons.
Speaker B:But I do enjoy it quite a bit.
Speaker A:Are you a child prodigy, as they say?
Speaker B:I doubt it.
Speaker B:I think that'd be cool, but I don't think so.
Speaker A:I used to play the piano, so I played guitar and trumpet also.
Speaker A:So none of them well at all.
Speaker A:Just I was there.
Speaker A:Who is the biggest influence on you personally in your life?
Speaker B:My parents.
Speaker A:Your parents.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Name something that you were really enthused about when you first saw it or heard about it.
Speaker A:And then with the time, over time, the excitement kind of died down.
Speaker B:Oh, rain in Portland when I first moved, I'm like, yes, this is beautiful.
Speaker B:And then as the years have come by, I'm like, no.
Speaker A:You know, we really didn't touch much on your golf career at psu, so you'll have to come back and we'll talk about that on another show.
Speaker A:How's that?
Speaker A:So, go Vikings.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Couple more questions here.
Speaker A:Do you have a favorite golf book?
Speaker B:Golf's not a game of perfect.
Speaker A:You.
Speaker A:You actually get through it.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Okay, good, good.
Speaker A:Just.
Speaker A:Just want to make sure.
Speaker A:What's the biggest change you think should be made in pro golf and then amateur golf, if.
Speaker A:If any?
Speaker B:I think for pro golf, I think the first should be more equal for the men and the.
Speaker B:And the ladies.
Speaker B:Just same as.
Speaker B:More screen time, you know, more.
Speaker B:Sure, I think that'd be.
Speaker B:That'd be cool.
Speaker B:It's such a different game to watch, and I think over the past few years, people have started to watch a little bit more, but I think there's still a lot of work to be done.
Speaker A:Oh, I would agree with you, Matt.
Speaker A:Do you think that golf can help kids with their math skills?
Speaker A:And you think that's kind of an arbitrary question, but you think in golf, we do so much with math, simple math, but we still, you know, 150 yards, you know, whatever like that.
Speaker A:I'd like to get your take on that.
Speaker B:I think so.
Speaker B:I think we do quick math on the course, and it just.
Speaker B:I think it also helps develop your brain, so I do think it would help kids, actually.
Speaker A:Okay, good.
Speaker A:Is there a course you want to play but have not played?
Speaker B:Band and dudes, actually.
Speaker A:Okay, you guys down there, listen up.
Speaker A:We got somebody that wants to come down there, actually.
Speaker A:Last question here for you, Mariana.
Speaker A:If I gave you a box with everything that you've lost in your life, what.
Speaker A:What would be the first thing you reached for?
Speaker B:I don't think I'd reach for anything.
Speaker A:Well, you're pretty young, so you.
Speaker A:You probably haven't had too much loss in your life at this point?
Speaker B:Fortunately not, no.
Speaker A:Okay, good.
Speaker A:That's actually, you know, consider yourself lucky for that answer.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker A:All right, again, where can people follow you?
Speaker A:Find you.
Speaker B:My Instagram, it's at Mariana Rosette.
Speaker A:Okay, well, Mariana Garcia Rosette, we thank you for being on the show this week and we look forward to having you back.
Speaker A:We're going to be following you so like that.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:I would like to build my fan base, so.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:We'll see if we can help you.
Speaker A:That's gonna be it for after hours.
Speaker A:So for Mariana, myself, thank you for listening.
Speaker A:We'll be back next week with another show.
Speaker A:Everybody, have a great weekend.
Speaker A:And remember our motto here, whatever it is, go out, play some golf, be happy, and also be kind.
Speaker A:Take care, everybody.
